Slab Table Workshop
Slab Table Workshop
This weekly class will walk you through all the steps involved in creating a finished and functional coffee table or bench-sized piece with a live edge slab top and staked wooden legs. All tools and materials will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring and use their own tools if they have them - we will be happy to help get them up and running smoothly.
We have American Beech and Sassafras live-edge slabs available for this class and will be providing leg stock in a complimentary wood.
Class duration will be four 3 hour sessions held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9pm.
The first session of this class will run on the following dates:
Tuesday 2/16/23
Thursday 2/21/23
Tuesday 2/23/23
Thursday 2/28/23
**Please email us to inquire about custom slab options outside of our current prepped stock**
The slabs will be flattened on a cnc to begin with. From there we will start on a journey of learning as we:
Choose the best “show” face for the top
Address and stabilize surface features like cracks, knots, and bark inclusions
Install optional inlays like butterflies
Fare in live edges for a pleasing and comfortable shape
Cut and shape our legs
Measure, mark, and cut joinery for the legs
Smoothing all surfaces in preparation for finishing
Choose and apply a topcoat for a durable and fantastic looking finish
Problem solve any and all issues along the way!
